Life Safety
The Life Safety Shop is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of building fire alarms systems, fire suppression systems and equipment, fire hydrants, and fire extinguishers. In addition, certified maintenance specialists inspect, test, maintain, and install backflow prevention devices used to protect the university’s drinking water supply. They also test and maintain safety showers and emergency eyewashes to insure they operate properly. The Electronics Shop is responsible for the maintenance of the campus synchronous clock system, traffic control signals, battery backed-up emergency lights and exit lights, building computerized lighting control systems, maintenance and testing of security alarms, and power quality monitoring. The Electronics Shop technicians also perform troubleshooting and repair of all electronic equipment associated with building mechanical and electrical systems and support other Facilities Operations trades in keeping campus facilities operational.
