1. Who do I call when there is a maintenance emergency?

Contact 335-9000 for maintenance and repair services on buildings and utilities. For non-emergencies, you can visit myFacilities at https://myfacilities.wsu.edu and submit your request online.

2. I live in a dorm or campus apartment - who do I contact to obtain maintenance or repair services?

Housing maintains the student living areas in the dorms and campus apartments. Contact Housing Maintenance for service at 335-1541 or visit their website at: http://www.wsu.edu/hdrl/Housing/housing.htm

3. Who cleans my building and how often is it scheduled?

Facilities Operations custodial staff are assigned to each academic building, with cleaning assignments changing often. For a list of supervisors and buildings they are responsible for, see the Custodial Services List. In addition, please refer to the cleaning frequency chart that shows how often we do different tasks in each type of area.

4. How do we get our carpets cleaned, floors waxed, or upholstery cleaned?

Please visit the myFacilities website at https://myfacilities.wsu.edu to submit a Custodial Work Request or contact Custodial Services, Guy Schmidtlein, at 335-9022, for more information. Please note that some of these services may require a fee.

5. How do I get tables and chairs for a special event?

Custodial Services provides chairs and tables for rent M-F from 8:00 AM to 3:15 PM for special events. Delivery and setup is not available. Please visit the myFacilities website at https://myfacilities.wsu.edu to submit a Custodial Work Request or contact Guy Schmidtlein at 335-9022 to reserve the equipment for the required dates and arrange pick up times.

6. Who replaces burned out lights?

Most of the street, walk and building lights are maintained and repaired by Facilities Operations. Please visit the myFacilities website at https://myfacilities.wsu.edu to submit a Work Request.

7. Who maintains the temperature in my building?

A team of technicians, control technicians, refrigeration mechanics, plumbers, electricians, water treatment specialists and building maintenance mechanics.

8. Who do I call if it is too hot/too cold?

If it is an emergency, please call 335-9000 immediately.  Otherwise, visit the myFacilities website at https://myfacilities.wsu.edu to submit a Maintenance Work Request.

9. How many buildings on campus do you control the HVAC for?

All buildings other than housing facilities are maintained or repaired by Facilities Operations.

10. Why in the summer does the cooling go off for periods of time? 

The campus has cooling shed procedures that allow us to support research facilities during periods of adversity.

11. What should I do if I want office furniture moved or adjusted?

This type of request is managed by our Construction Services Division on a recharge basis.  Please visit the myFacilities website at https://myfacilities.wsu.edu to submit a Construction Work Request. 15. How do I get the status on a service or work order request?

You can log on to the myFacilities website at https://myfacilities.wsu.edu and click the VIEW tab.  You can then type in your work request number or search for your request by building, status, etc.

16. If I need to send a FAX to Facilities Operations, what number do I use?

509-335-9304 for general faxing, 509-335-1961 for construction related business.

17. I lost my keys. What do I do?

Contact your Departmental Key Coordinator, who is usually the person that initially issues you the key(s). If unknown, contact Mike Blair (mgblair@wsu.edu) at our Key Shop.

18. Can posters or signs be hung on university buildings, light posts, kiosks or the pedestrian overpasses?

The public kiosks on campus are available for posting of signs or posters. Signs and posters may also, with permission from Student Activities and Recreational Sports (335-9666), be placed on the French Administration overpass and the exterior of the CUB. Most other locations on campus are restricted with regard to outdoor advertising. Contact Larry Neal, via email (ldneal@wsu.edu) or by phone at 335-9001, for information.

19. How do I make a reservation for an automobile?

Contact the Motor Pool at 335-9085 or visit their area website for more information.  To reserve an auto, you will need to provide a WSU budget and project number. In addition, have available the dates and time the vehicle is needed, destination and the name of the driver. See BPPM 95.35 for details on Motor Pool policies.

20. Who do I contact to find out how much my project costs?

Your first point of contact should always be your Project Manager. If you are unsure of who your project manager is you can call 335-9036 or 335-9321 to get that information. You may also contact Facilities Operations Accounting division at 335-9033 if you are unable to reach your project manager.

21. If I have concerns with the custodial service being provided in my area, what can I do?

Contact the Director of Custodial Services Tom Parrish at 335-9023 or via e-mail at parrish@wsu.edu to report your concern.

22. What policy applies to performing minor renovation and improvement work in university facilities?

Facilities Operations is responsible for reviewing and approving all minor renovation and improvement work. To review the complete background information on this requirement go to the following links:

All minor construction, renovation, remodeling, improvement, demolition, and furniture projects must be approved in advance by Facilities Operations, and the responsible administrator (dean, director, chair) to ensure:

  • Appropriate funding for the project.
  • Compatibility of project with existing spaces and utility systems.
  • Adherence to WSU policies, standards, and regulations.
  • Adherence to applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
  • Adherence to civil service and public works laws.

23. What rule applies for electrical modifications to university facilities? Are there electrical permit fees?

Electrical Modification Rule
Facilities Operations is required to submit plans for electrical modifications in educational facilities to Washington State Labor and Industry (WA L&I) Electrical Division for review and approval. All plan-approved electrical work performed must also be inspected by WA L&I Electrical Division. These rules are part of the National Electrical Code which Washington State law makers have adopted as a regulatory requirement. The Facilities Operations’ fee for preparing electrical plan documents is approximately $1,500 per job. The WA L&I plan review fee is approximately $500 per job.

24. What is the policy related to using WSU facilities and/or grounds for posting advertising materials?

Posting advertising materials is generally for a temporary period of time. Advertising postings or temporary postings on WSU facilities are governed by WAC 504-34-140. Details of WAC 504-34-140 can be found at the following link: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=504-34-140
